About This Schema

Every license owner is polymorphic via licensable_id/licensable_type, so a license can attach to a User, Team, or any Eloquent model without schema changes.

What this Laravel Licensing schema covers

• License issuance, activation, and expiration
• Seat enforcement per usage fingerprint
• Multi-product scopes with isolated signing keys
• Trials, renewals, and multi-party transfer approvals

A few decisions the diagram can't show:

• licenses.key_hash stores only an HMAC-SHA256 hash. The plaintext activation key is never persisted, so a DB dump won't leak keys.
• Device uniqueness is enforced by the unique (license_id, usage_fingerprint) index; max_usages is enforced transactionally by the package when registering a usage.
• licensing_keys uses unique (kid, license_scope_id), so the same kid can live in different scopes; a null scope means a global key.
• licensing_audit_logs.previous_hash chains each row to the prior event, forming a hash chain over license lifecycle.
• license_templates.parent_template_id is a self-reference paired with tier_level for Bronze/Silver/Gold inheritance, not arbitrary trees.

Good fork target if you need offline PASETO/Ed25519 licensing with per-product key isolation. Features and entitlements live in JSON columns, so expect JSON functions for SQL-side filtering.
